Colors of France #3 (Flowers)

I took off a day earlier from Antibes than Chris and flew to Paris to meet up with M, a very good buddy from high school. Come to think of it, from grade school. We were tight since grade school. Anyway, he was in Paris studying at Le Cordon Bleu. At the time, M and I had not seen each other since about five years ago when we traveled across Canada together. It was great catching up with him. He's one of those friends with whom you just pick up where you left off the last time you saw each other, no matter that it was eons ago.

M took me and Chris to a morning market near our hotel. Maybe because this was right smack in the middle of the city, but this one was not quite as charming as the one in Antibes, but I loved it nonetheless. I took my time at each stall. There were dry goods, fish (!), snacks, fresh flowers. The flowers kept me the longest. I couldn't get over how colorful they were, how beautiful.

Somehow everything just seemed more vivid in France. Vivid, yet understated. It was easy to be lured in by the romance of it all. So much so that I bought a beautiful black silk bag with an Asian motif and subtle red and gold accents from one of the stalls, thinking that I got a bargain. A beautiful, unique bag from Paris. Not one of those designer bags that have knock-offs everywhere. Then I came back to Hong Kong only to see the same bag sold at one of the stores here, at much, much less than what I had paid for it. Of course it cost less here. It was made here. Duh. Why would anyone go to Paris and buy a bag with an Asian motif when there is Shanghai Tang here? Double duh.

@MH and CCD: Thanks! I was using a Pentax point-and-shoot then. That camera died on me a few years ago. I now use a Sony point-and-shoot: fancier looking, but not quite as good as my old Pentax. :)
