Sweet Talk

Part of the blessing of having more than one child is watching them look out for each other and be, well, just be sweet with each other.

Zoë, for some reason, did not want to change out of her pajamas this morning. She absolutely refused and threw a fit. Then she boldly and angrily announced, “Bye bye!” and proceeded to close the door to the hallway. Quite a little firecracker we have here.

Josh went after her and this is what Chris and I heard from the living room --

Josh (in a very gentle and patient tone): Zoë, come out now, okay?

Zoë: NO! No, no, no!

Josh: You just want to stay here all by yourself?

Zoë: Yes.

Josh: But if you don’t come out, then you won’t be able to come with us and you won’t see your cousins. So come out now, okay?

Zoë: ‘Kay.

And she calmly came out.

Chris and I were both smiling throughout this short exchange.

What a great big brother Josh is! It's so nice when they start to take care of each other--nice for mom and dad, especially :)

Josh knows how to really reason with his little sister. I love hearing about your kids. They seem to be such great kids. I never hear you complaining about bad behavior or tantrums...just typical kid stuff. Do you ever have bad kid days??

@Chocolate Covered Daydreams: They're 4 and 2 --so pretty typical kid stuff so far. Yes, I do have days when I want to tear my hair out, but if I were to be really honest, they're more "bad mommy" days more than anything else.

I'm looking forward to moments like this. Right now, my son is almost four and he's a little "rough" with his 9-month old sister. He doesn't know how to be "gentle" yet!

Okay, wait a minute....I have two 4-yr olds and two 2-yr olds and they are very rarely nice to each other like that. Well, sometimes the 2-yr olds are nice to each other...when they're not biting one another.

Your Josh sounds incredibly sweet...maybe he could do a Vlog someday called "The Proper Way to Treat your Siblings...so no one gets hurt". My kids could learn a thing or two from him!

I really hope that my two little boys get to that point. The baby just isn't ready for that yet....he's only 15 months. This story gives me hope though, so I'm very excited I stumbled by. :) Happy Friday.
