Soon He Can Take Over Bedtime Stories Duty… We Hope

Josh is making great progress in reading. He can now read very simple books by himself, mostly by sounding out the words and sometimes by deducing what the words are by the pictures on the page.

I love the pride on his face when he finishes reading an entire book all by himself. It used to be that he would only read books that he already knew how to read, but he’s more adventurous now and would gladly tackle new ones that we get back from the library.

Josh has always loved books. Even when he was little, he would pick up books and leaf through them, “reading” to himself. He could actually memorize entire books and he would think that he could actually read then!

Here’s a video of Josh reading to Zoë when she was 3 months old (didn’t my sweet girl look like a boy?). Josh, himself, was only 30 months old at the time. He was “reading” Love Is a Rainbow to her. This is one of my favorite videos ever.

My kids were MESMERIZED at the breakfast table. I love it!

BBJ has memorized a few books...I wonder if I could get her to read to Siu Jeun! (Most likely, she'd beat him over the head when he refused to sit still or tried to take the book from her. Heh.)

It amazes me to this day how quickly my daughter started reading. It's like once they get a few words under their belt, they're off!

Delightful! I love the way kids drink in books when they discover the art of reading. Your babies are sooooo cute.

You have a wonderful day reliving this precious moment.

What I love is the way Zoe actually seems to get what is going on...

Josh is taking his job really seriously. He's doing so good to be reading complete books.

My daughters were notorious for memorizing books as well but I just let them think that I wasn't on to them.

So adorable! And I love that your boy and my girl are learning to read together, half a world away from each other.
