I ♥ Faces - Week 44 : Thankfulness

Life is too short to dwell on the not-so-nice things – war, depression, illnesses, poverty, acts of violence, pettiness, etc. I’m not saying that we turn a blind eye to these, because they do exist and we do need to do what we can (pray, volunteer, help build awareness, etc.) to somehow help make things a little bit –or a lot! --better. But I firmly believe that only when we are able to truly appreciate what we have in our lives that we can fully reach out and help change things for the better.

There is so much to be thankful for. Each night when we say our prayers with the children, I get them to say at least one thing that they are grateful for. I am often touched and amused at what they want to thank Jesus for. And that, in itself, is something that I am thankful for –the joy of hearing what it is that made their day, of knowing that what we, as parents, do for them and give to them matters enough that they mention it in their nighttime prayers.

~~--~~

I am thankful for this little boy, who is such a wonderful big brother to his little sister. I am thankful for his brand of “cool” loving. I am thankful for the endless questions he asks. I am thankful for his self-assuredness. I am thankful for the times when he quietly sits and “practices, so that [he] could draw beautiful pictures just like KungKung.” I am thankful for how he officially made me a "mommy."

I am thankful for this little girl, for the laughter and joy that she brings to our lives. I am thankful for her feistiness. I am thankful for her big personality. I am thankful for her funny and creative imagination. I am thankful for her very own brand of sugar-honey sweetness, when she puts her little hands on my face and draws me down to plant a kiss on my lips and says ever so sweetly, “I love you, Mommy.”

I am thankful that both Josh and Zoë get along well –most of the time. I love how when I want to take a photo of the two of them together, Zoë always tries reach up and put her arm around Josh!

I am thankful for Chris, for the wonderful person he is. For the way he makes me smile and laugh out loud. For the way he is with Josh and Zoë. I am thankful for our little family.

There are many more things that I am thankful for, but most of all, I am thankful that I have plenty to be thankful for.
