Does anyone know what kind of a berry these are? Are they even berries? I had tried to google for images of different kinds of berries and have not come across this type.
I bought these at the market and all the shopkeeper could tell me was that they were yummy. And they were. Sweet and juicy, with a just a tad of sourness. It has a seed like that of a cherry’s.
Next time I go buy these, I’ll try to make the shopkeeper write down the name, even though it will be in Chinese… At least then I’ll have a starting point in my quest to learn more about this fruit.
[Edit: My mom gets the prize!! These are YUMBERRIES. What a great name.]

Let us know when you find out.
Their texture looks quite intriguing but I have no idea what they are...except, I can say that about most of the pictures of food you post! :)
I have no idea what they are. But they do look YUMMY!
They look very interesting and quite tasty. Please let us all know when ya'll find out.
Enjoy your berries and have a wonderful evening!
Those are some seriously curious looking berries. They remind me of these candies that my Grandma used to keep in a jar on her counter.
I'll be curious to find out what they are.
Those look so interesting! Asian fruits are the absolute best :)
yummy looking for sure... looks like a type of raspberry? Will be interested in the answer!

i forget what these are called in Chinese, but i know they are grown in the province of Guizhou (and probably elsewhere as well). they're delicious fresh, but you can freeze them over the winter and eat them just slightly thawed. it's like a little bit of sour sorbet!
I'm so curious now...you MUST let us know when you find out more!
Is it an arbutus berry, from the strawberry tree?
Hey, drop by and link up!
Mmmm..they look so rich!!! YUM!!!
Sooo interesting! You must do a follow up post when you find out more!
how cool! never seen them before!
Wow. I thought those were decorative balls, you know, the ones people put on tables with different textures...then I was confused, wondering why you were talking about them in such palatable terms.
It takes me a minute.
I've never even heard of this before! At first I thought they were lychee!
Wow pretty and tasty, I was reminded of raspberries, my fav. I hope to try some someday! By the way I wear Clinique Happy... I love that the name is positive and I smile every time I see the perfume bottle on the counter!
They are cool looking. I've never seen them before.
They're gorgeous!
And I bet they're yummy too!
They look good and at first glance, I thought they were truffles-lol
They look very similar to a raspberry. My girls would call these a dragonberry from Dragon Tales. I would try it. It's less scarier than that other fruit from last week. lol ;-)
I have berries in my fridge thinking my kids would assume it's candy (I don't give them candy) and they won't eat them. Oh, well! More for me!
They have many names; they are also called arbutus fruit, bayberry, wax myrtle, bay-rumberry, sweet gale, and in China, from where it hails, 杨梅.
I have no idea, but they look so pretty and juicy!
I think, think, I've seen them before in the freezer section at my local Chinese grocery store. We don't have fresh tropical fruits here. Even durians are frozen. How did you like those berries? Were they sweet?
glad you found out the name, i would've been NO help :)
happy WW!
They look interesting. And what a perfect name-YUMberries!
Happy WW! New follower

Mmmmmmm!! They look amazing. Great photo too!!
Yumberries! I've never heard of or even seen of such berries before! You have me intrigued... Now, if only I can find them here in Tokyo...
That photo makes my mouth water. What a fitting name!!
Oh I found the wikipedia article on these. They're called yang mei in Mandarin.
