One of the highlights of our trip to Canada is blueberry-picking at one of the farms. We did it last year and we all had such fun that we knew that we would be doing it again this year. As with last year, we headed to Krause Berry Farms in Langley, BC.
You could choose to bring your own containers. You just have to have them weighed in before you start picking, so they could subtract the weight of the container from the total weight when you’re done picking. Or you could purchase carton boxes at the farm, too. We brought beach buckets for the kids.
Here is the yellow school bus that took us to the blueberry fields about three minutes away from the main farm.
Once we got to the field, we were assigned a row to pick and we picked away! Despite reminders to the kids to just pick and not eat, both Zoë and Baby K couldn’t help themselves.
Between five children and five adults, we picked 22 pounds of blueberries. The farm charges CAD1.50 per pound of blueberries picked. Sure, we could’ve bought the blueberries from the supermarket for about the same price and we wouldn’t have had to do all we did to get the trip organized, do the almost one hour drive to the farm… But if we had just bought the blueberries from the supermarket, we would’ve missed out on the fun of communing with nature, getting the kids to experience picking blueberries themselves, seeing the joy on their faces as their buckets start to fill out, and this…
There’s a small petting zoo at the farm with goats, sheep, rabbits, and a big black pig. Zoë wanted to go in so badly, but once inside, she clung to me like a koala, holding fast, with legs wrapped as high as they possibly could reach around my torso! She wanted to pet the animals, but did not like them sniffing her up.
After everybody got washed up, we headed over to the porch where we enjoyed yummy berry milkshakes and smoothies!
They also serve roasted corn pizza, shortcakes, pies, various cakes… and this!
If ever you are in British Columbia in the summer, try to head out to the Krause Berry Farms in Langley for some U-Pick fun and top it off with fresh berry milkshakes and sumptuous pies before heading back. We’re definitely going again next year!

My favorite time of year is definitely when blueberries are in season. I've got to plant some bushes now that I'm going to own the land my home's on.
Oh delicious! And those hats. And chubby legs. Also delicious.
MMmmmm, they never taste as good out of the store as they do freshly picked off the farm. Love the pic of the wooly little lamb! The kids are adorable with their little containers.
Ya'll have a fun and blessed evenings sweetie!!!
That looks like so much fun! I have always wanted to go berry picking!
These are the kinds of things kids remember. :)
fresh blueberries! YUM! YUM!
Oh that looks good. Endless possibilities for delicious desserts. Looks like fun :)
Oh what fun... We haven't pick much of anything the last couple of years. I am hoping to do strawberries next year. Looks like you had a fun day.
that is a LOT of blueberries! But I agree... the experience is worth it :)
That looks like it was so much fun. Sometimes it's all about the experience. How fun to go on a bus and get the berries yourself. Then get to make yummies after. That pie looks to die for. Maybe I will just come to your house instead!!
Here in New England we're big on berry/fruit picking too :) It's one of the MUST do things in the summer and fall. That berry pie looks sooo good!
Wow - that berry pie is GORGEOUS! And that little goat... how cute is that?!
Hugs to you~!
What a beautiful place to pick blueberries.
I had fun this year picking them and definitely will be picking again next year.
That pie looks DELICIOUS!
How fun! We went strawberry picking a few times this summer and you are so right when you talk about the experience of it all. My little one's had a hard time too of not eating while picking but at the one place they actually encouraged it. Glad you and your family got to take part in such fun together. These are memories your little one's will not forget. XX
Absolutely right. I can't remember one time buying blueberries as a child. But I sure remember picking them with my family and all the fun that went with that.
Great post!
THAT is a beautiful pie. THe shakes are making my mouth water...
you're right abt just buying them from the supermarket as opposed to picking them - this is why you're such a cool mum!!
i'm deciding whether to move to canada or back to london and seems like canada seems like a better option. ;)
(you've been mentioned on my blog ;))
oh my what fun!!!!!! i love the desert in the end the best
Thank you for taking the time to post these fabulous photos & comments about our farm!! We are very happy to hear that you enjoyed your Krause Berry Farms experience! Please introduce yourself the next time you have the chance to visit:)
Oh my goodness! What fun. It looks like you guys had such a blast. We went blueberry picking last summer in Michigan and had such a great time. The kiddos loved it! We are actually going back next week, so I hope we can do it again.
I love your pictures!!!! My kids really enjoyed apple picking one year, and they also sold their pies! The one you posted looks DELICIOUS!!
Your photos are stunning. Your kiddos are sooooo cute....awe!!! I have my 2 yr old looking at your animal pics right now, making the sounds. I will be stopping by often.
Found you from mama's Nestwork,
natalie :o)
Oh, man...that pie just about did me in. That sounds like so much fun!!! We're heading up to Richmond in a few weeks...maybe I can talk the crew into stopping off in Langley. I wonder what the customs rules are regarding transporting fresh produce.....
This day trip alone seemed worthwhile for the whole vacation! My hubby told me of a strawberry picking trip he took many years ago. His justification for the extra effort was all the strawberries he could eat before the weigh-in!
