Book Talk

I don’t go through books the way I did back when I was still in university.  Those days, I could generally finish a book within two days.  I was a voracious reader.  These days, though. what with motherhood and blogging and taking/editing photos, it takes me longer to finish a book.  That said, I am always into a book –quickly starting another one as soon as one is done.  In between ‘real’ books, I enjoy the occasional trashy novel that does not require much reflection.  Books the equivalent of romantic comedies in movies.

There are books, depending on the author and the story, that I finish very quickly.  There are those that drag on.  It used to be that no matter how boring I find a book, I would plod through, however tediously, and somehow finish it.  Not so now.  I still hate to not finish a book, but life is too short.  There are other books to read, new authors to discover.

Do you always finish every book that you start?  What are you reading right now?

I really enjoy reading but I go through phases. Right now I'm in teen vampire land. I'm on book for of a series (and I honestly don't know how many books there are). How is this book you're reading?

I have to finish the book once I start it. If it's awful, it might take me months. If it's great, I sometimes can do it in a day.

So do you speed read? I learned about speed reading while in college and you know, that was just not me. If I sped through my reading, I'd end re-reading because I wouldn't remember what I was reading. With that said, I'm not a reader. I fall asleep reading.

Right now, I'm reading The Forgotten Beasts of Eld, by Patricia McKillip. I LOVE to read, but it comes in spurts. These past few weeks, I've had a constant rotation of books to keep me occupied. In a few weeks, I'll be done with that and will have something else to fill my time with. ;-)

The book that you've pictured - I've seen it on the bestseller's lists for quite awhile.
I try hard to complete the books I've started, because usually, I feel that the book was worth reading before I even started. But, as you know, you can get into it, and it can become blahhh...
Now, I don't feel as compelled to finish everything, because as you said, life is short. Why stress over it?
Just finished "The Help" and a trilogy of Amish-based books (The Shunning, The Confession, and The Reckoning). All were page-turners.
Now reading "The Lonely Polygamist" with my book club.

I agree, it is hard not to finish a book no matter how boring...the key is to do the unpardonable and jump to the end! :o) I'm getting ready to start the WHEEL OF TIME series;;;

I'm the same way. BK (Before Kids) I could read at least 2 books a week. Now, I'm lucky I read a book a month. I don't always finish the books I read though. Before the summer started, I was getting really burned out reading books to review, so it was hard for me to read for enjoyment. This summer I did read "Twilight", "My Fair Lazy" and "Bitter is the New Black" by Jen Lancaster. I'm in between books right now, so I'd like the next one to be a quick trash novel. LOL!

Right now I am reading Eat, Pray, Love and it's taking me quite some time because I get so little time to read. I love it though so will eventually finish it. If I am reading a book I do try to persevere but not for long. Life is too short!

I don't like not finishing a book, so I try hard to finish everything i start. But there have been a few books I just couldn't get through.

No book for me. However, I am going to reread Eclipse and Breaking Dawn when I am at the beach. I don't like movie theaters so I am waiting for Eclipse to come out on video :) Yes, I don't finish books all the time if I find them boring but I used to be like you and read them. Then came kids. Most days I am lucky to shower let alone have a minute to myself :)

I just read the "Mortal Instruments" series by Cassandra Clare and I LOVED them!

My mom (who is also a librarian) told me she just read the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo and didn't like it at all. What do you think of it?
