My friend came over the other day and brought me a whole bunch of sunflowers from their garden. I hadn’t realized that there are different kinds of sunflowers. To me, sunflowers look like this --
and then I noticed that in the bunch there were others that look like this --
Doesn’t that look like it could be the pretty daughter of a sunflower and a Gerber daisy?
Imagine that –two happy flowers in one!
How awesome is that?

I Love It!!! Down the road from our home a neighbor has a giant sunflower garden. THey get as tall as his house each summer, we love them.

I thought about you this week...we just drove home from Richmond today. SO many fields and farmers markets up there!!!!! I hope we can coordinate better next summer. LOL
Oh, and when I think of sunflowers, I always think of the HUGE ones (Mammoth Sunflowers?) that grew around my schoolyard when I was little. They were easily 6 feet tall, and the flowers were as big as dinner plates! In the fall, all the petals would fall off, and the middle part would dry out...revealing the sunflower seeds inside. Then tiny birds would fly in and carefully eat them all. Nice memories...
