Touch-Up Tuesday | Beach Boy

Yes, this is another photography-related post… {My third one today!}  If you haven’t noticed by now, I really LOVE taking pictures.  And I learn so much from reading photography-related sites and blogs, like I Heart Faces and Pioneer Woman's Photography, among many others.  (Of course, let us not forget my awesome pals over at Communal Global –they inspire me so!)  My newest favorite is The Bonnie 5.  Karli is such an amazing photographer and her blog is such a delight to read.   She hosts Touch-Up Tuesday where everybody can share a straight-out-of-camera (SOOC) shot and a post-edit shot.  Sometimes step-by-step fixes are listed… and that is where I usually pick up tips and get ideas for future edits.  I love looking through the before and the after pictures and reading about the fixes and seeing the difference.

I thought that I would join in this week…  The first shot is my initial edited shot of Josh at the beach.  Below that is my SOOC shot.

St

I did this edit on CS4 last week and I do not remember all the steps I took when I edited this picture.  I know that I adjusted levels and curves and I also ran the CoffeeShop Perfect Portrait action, but adjusted down the opacity in some of the steps.  Sorry that I cannot be more specific beyond that… I really don’t remember.

But looking at the first edit, I decided to do a further edit and brighten it up a tad and tone down the colors a little.  I opened up the edited photo in CS4 --

    • Created a layer (Ctrl+J).
    • Ran AMP Tints|Hazes|Overlays action (free –and one of my newest favorites!)
    • Clicked on Butter Tint (Opacity at 20%) and La Leche Overlay (Opacity at 18%)

And this is what I got (Edit A)… I like this even more than the original edit up above!Josh-full1 (Edit 1)

And here is a BW version…Josh-full1 (Edit 2)

Using Edit A, this is what I did:

    • Ctrl+Shift+U to change it to BW.
    • Ran AMP Tints|Hazes|Overlays action again.
    • Clicked on Bittersweet Chocolate Tint (27%), Plum Haze (15%), Plum Tint (20%), Espresso Tint (20%).

Do visit The Bonnie 5 and link up or you can just browse through the different edits and maybe pick up a few tips here and there.

I love PS and I just love your edits!! It's amazing how you can just keep on layering and layring ;o) At some point, I have to tell me, enough is enough! But you did a fantastic job! The colors really pop in your last edit!

Oh I agree 100%! Edit A is perfection! Completely perfect in every way. I heard about CS's Perfect Portrait last week, but hadn't had a chance to try it. After seeing that you used it...I'm totally checking it out. Your picture is just WONDERFUL! LOVE the b&w too; what a wonderful feel to it. Keep 'em coming Buckaroo Mama, because I love your photography! ;-) Happy Tuesday! (Oh and AMP's tints are awesome, aren't they?) Love those!

yay i love photography posts! i used to do that too when i was shooting weddings because i think a lot of people are curious how others achieve their look. because i don't have my computer with me this week, i don't have my PS CS3 and have to settle with SOOC. but in some ways it is making me try a little harder when taking photos knowing that i can't touch them up.
