Just-Right Japanese Dining

Next to Thai food, Japanese food is probably my second favorite.   It’s light, it’s yummy, it comes in small servings.  Chris and I had dinner at Beppu Ekimae  (別府駅前料理), a local Japanese restaurant chain.  There are plenty of really great small Japanese restaurants in Causeway Bay –I don’t even know the names, I just know how to get there! –but Beppu Ekimae is near and it’s good value-for-money.  Whenever we don’t have any idea where to go, Beppu is always a safe choice.

While I particularly love salmon sashimi, we like ordering the sashimi platter, because we then get a variety.  There’s tuna, salmon, squid, shrimp, and yellowtail.

Then of course we have to have some ebi tempura – battered and deep-fried prawns, to be dipped in tensuyu sauce and grated radish.

I’m not very much into pizza, but Chris convinced me to try this wasabi pizza and I have to admit that I really liked it!  It was cheese-y, with a only a hint of wasabi and the flavor bursts in your mouth as you take a bite. Definitely will be ordering this when we go there again.

We also had some tuna hand rolls.  At Beppu, they don’t serve tuna tartare rice, –which I absolutely LOVE! –so the hand rolls had to suffice.  Just as well.  The helping was just the perfect size.  If I had had a bowl of tuna tartare rice, then I wouldn’t have had room for all the other stuff.Tuna-handroll

What is your favorite food?  Curry, hamburgers, sushi, pasta, meat pies…?

Oh that all looks so so good!! I LOVE sushi - its one of my favorite dinner splurges. Hubby and I pick a huge variety of rolls and just try a little of everything. He is not into sashimi that much, but a couple of pieced of tuna makes me a very happy girl!!

While I also love Thai, Pinoy food would of course be my all-time favorite: sinigang, kare-kare, binagoongan, the best!!
