Last Friday, my city-born, city-bred kids were invited to my friend’s {plant} nursery and there, they got to experience a little bit of ‘farm life.’ This is not the first time we’ve done that, but each time, it’s such a treat.
They got to pick carrots
and beets,
dig for potatoes,
{Those baby potatoes taste SO good!}
and they even tried to catch tadpoles!
We also learned about a vegetable called kohlrabi
and came home with bags full of freshly picked veggies and some delphiniums, too.
Like I said, each time we visit them, it’s such a treat. Josh and Zoë get a better appreciation of the food we eat, where they come from, how they’re harvested, etc. They play with my friend’s children. I get to spend time with my friend and I also get tons of things to photograph! Thank you, G, for your hospitality!

We grow food and we are fortunate enough to have fruit trees and grapes. I think it is great when kids learn that grapes grow on vines they don't come from the grocery store LOL

That is awesome. I agree that it's important for people - not just kids! - to connect to where food comes from. We are inextricably bound to this planet, and it's easy to forget that when we can't see beyond the supermarket.

It looks like a wonderful time! I love every capture! I would pick a favorite, but they are all beautiful. That first one really is wonderful and the picture of Zoe with the beat reminds me of a picture my daughter made the day before I had her sister. I called it the "beat man," well because he looked like a beat. Thank you for sharing!

What a great experience. It is kind of difficult to find farms in HK that allow one to literally pull the carrots and beetroots out from the soil. Where is this? Is it open to general public?
