Random Nothings

tantrum

I almost popped an artery.   Okay, that was a bit dramatic.  But I did get worked up.

Over the past few months, quite a number of you emailed to say that you couldn’t leave comments.  There are times when I could not even see the Intense Debate comments section myself!   So I decided to switch back to the old Blogger comment system.

Intense Debate, you were pretty and interactive, but I did not enjoy the “now-you-see-it, now-you-don’t” games that you play.

I need a blog overhaul. Is what I need.
~~—~~

A very good friend was in town last week. I had lunch with him and his family.  M’s my friend from way back grade school/high school.  We even went to the same university.  He went to Montreal for his MBA.  We sort of toured Canada together one spring.  Later he was in Paris for Cordon Bleu.  Chris and I visited him there after our trip to Antibes.  Then he settled back in Toronto.  We had lunch with him there when Josh was 6 months old.  That was the last time we had seen each other.  Until last week.  More than five years.  Yet it was like the years didn’t happen.  The conversation just flowed, the laughter came fast and easily.

After lunch, we parted ways with his parents (who happen to be my parents’ friends, too) and M, his sister and her husband, and I went walking around Tsim Sha Tsui.  We did not have any particular destination in mind.  His sister wanted to find a special gift for a friend.  In and out of little shopping centers, off the main drag.  Until we happened in one that looked similar to other mini-malls, except that the basement level had shops that cater to, um,  a certain clientele.  We saw risqué displays, racy “toys,” provocative outfits.  And then we also saw this:

Funny-sign-BW

image

This was a sign on a jewelry store right next to one of the aforementioned shops.  We couldn’t agree whether the sign was deliberate or accidental.  What do you think?

~~—~~

We hurried out of there.  M’s sister and her husband wanted to walk some more.  M and I decided to find somewhere to sit down and just chat.  We made our way to iSquare, where we found Honeymoon Dessert.  It was empty save for one table and us.  I’m not one for desserts usually, but I love the desserts at this place!  We ordered their signature Mango Pancakes and I had the  Mango Pomelo & Sago Tofu Pudding with Sweet Soup,
mango-sago-pomelo
(You’ll have to trust me when I say it tastes a LOT better than it looks here!I would have had seconds if I didn’t mind looking like a complete glutton.)

while M had this:
Banana, mango, passion fruitA hodgepodge of bananas, mango bits, sugar palm, passion fruit seeds, pomelo bits,
and some preserved kumquat-ish fruit that we could not identify.
If you are into desserts and especially mango-flavored desserts, do check out Honeymoon Dessert (滿記甜品) if ever you’re in town. I daresay it’s even better than the other mango place I’d written about before.

Sounds like a lovely time! And I'd say the store advertisement was intentional...

Hope your comments work now... drove me nuts trying to figure out how to get it to work! :)

You do sort of need a blog overhaul, if only because your site loads slowly. BTW, if you want a good tech resource, my brother-in-law's firm did my redesigned implementation, and the coding/performance was first rate. Or, I'll just wait for your stuff to load:).

That sign cracks me up. To the above comment...I've never had any problems loading your site. Hmmm...and I don't think I've had problems with your comments. Blogger does annoy me though!

That signage is hysterical! Thanks for a good laugh!

I hope the sluts were able to take advantage of the 50% off sale! hahaha

I'm sure the dessert was delicious but it resembles eyeballs and I don't think I could eat it while thinking that I have eyes staring at me! :)

I´m SO glad I can leave comments every time I visit now, before I could just do it from one of our computers. :-)

I don't know if it was an accident or intentional, but is it okay to admit it made me laugh?

Those desserts look amazing!

Fabulous pictures!!

Wonder what they were thinking when they put up that sign? LOL Some kind of subliminal message that they were selling something else? Hmmm...

That desert looks delicious! Must be an Asian thing with fruits and sweets. ;) Glad you had a fun time with your friend.

blueviolet said...

Your dessert looks magnificent!

I can't decide if that was deliberate either. I just don't know!

Jessie said...

I would totally bet that was random. But we'll never know :) Yay for seeing old friends. Isn't that the best. I have many in my life that we just never skip a beat when we get back together. I love them with all my heart! Have a great day mama!

Glad you got the comments taken care of...I always had trouble commenting at work with Disqus....but only on your site :o/ Everyone else that had the same system, I was able to comment just fine. So I had to always comment on your site from home. I'm guessing there was some sort of coding conflict. Anyways...all is good right with the world again :)

I definitely think that sign was created intentionally to send a very strong message. Those desserts look and sound AMAZING!

Oh, thank goodness! I've had trouble commenting a few times, especially from my i-phone. Hope this resolves everything.

And slut 50%? BwwwaaaHaHaHaHaHa! Does that mean the jewelry is only 50% slutty or that it's all slut and 50% off? Because that influences whether or not I plan to purchase any.

Mommy2Four said...

Oh my! What a sign!!!

Maybe only the cheap jewelry is on sale? hehe

Love Letters To China said...

Too funny!! Those desserts sound and look delicious. The last photo has little round things that look like eyes....are those passion fruit seeds? Very interesting..... :-)

I've never had any problems with your site.

Wanda said...

Glad you got the bugs out. (I was one who sometimes had problems but I thought it was just me!)

On purpose for sure. Someone should tell them that that may not be the best way to attract business. Just sayin'.

Yummy desserts!

Stacy Uncorked said...

I had to do a double-take on that sign - then burst out laughing! :)

And now you have me craving a decadent dessert... ;)

Looking carefully I guess intentional!

Run DMT said...

I'm glad you explain what was in that bowl, because those seeds looked like eyeballs. lol

As for the sign, yep the SLUT sale was totally deliberate. Too funny! And thanks for posting that to because it's really hard to find sluts 50% off. lol

Tezzie said...

haha! In Swedish, the word SLUT actually means 'all gone/the end/finished'...the english 'slut' of course translates into something completely different. So, when a store has a final clearance/sale it says 'slut sale'...ok, replace 'sale' with the swedish word for sale and you'll have what it actually says, but you know what I mean. And with my Swenglish these days, my brain doesn't register the difference of languages all the time, so my head sometimes reads it as a slut sale (english version ;D). Also, the final credits of a Swedish movie never fail to crack me up...instead of THE END, it will read SLUT...like the movie is leaving me with a parting insult! LOL

Thanks for the giggle!

Those puds look very interesting..!

DawnS said...

So funny! I think it is accidental - you know every other letter just "happened" to be that :)

My money is on the sign being deliberate.

My #2 boy loves mango desserts.. especially mango pudding. Will check out the place you recommend when we are back in hk.

The sign is just hilarious! We had great fun when we were in China reading quite a few signs that said Rolxe instead of the real thing. Don't know if that was intentional either.
