Cousins | Friends for Life

Cousins are ready-made friends for life.  I’d like to think that this is true, especially for those who are not too far apart in years.  Josh and Zoë are lucky enough to have a bunch of cousins to whom they are quite close.  There are six of them.  It helps that between the oldest and youngest in the group is only a difference of 2.5 years.

We only get to see the cousins once a year on account of our living oceans apart.  That doesn’t seem to matter, though, because every time they get together, it’s like they just met up yesterday.  Now, apart from phone calls, we have Skype, Whatsapp, and emails, so keeping in touch is not a problem.  We all do our best to make sure these cousins grow up as close as they can be, distance notwithstanding.

So sweet to have that bond! My cousins on both sides of the family are spaced far apart, me being the youngest so it was hard to have that bond!

I only wished that closeness continued as they get older with different interests and priorities. My daughter and my brother's son are merely 5 months different in age and they are as close today as they were as infants and toddlers - as soon as they hook back up, it is as if a day hasn't passed since their last visit. Our younger children are no longer close and maybe say a couple of words to each other when we visit. Individual personalities. Love this picture - will leave them with great memories.

That is such a blessing! I didn't grow up super close in distance to extended family, and I often wish my kids had cousins. So happy that your kids get this true gift of family-friends!!

That's so true! I have wonderful memories of the days I spent with my cousins and I'm so sad that the only two that my daughters have are so far (in USA)! They are all so little that they can't use skype by themselves and we are always busy so we can't "see" each other often, but when they have the chance to spend time together it's like they have always lived with us!
