I love rice.  I can survive on bread, pasta, pizza, and steak, but only for so long.  When I was in London, I was staying in Regent's Park, but I remember making the trek to Chinatown, because I was craving for some Asian food.  Trips back from overseas, time and time again, would find me heading straight out to get myself some char siew fan (叉燒rice with roasted barbecue pork slices). Yes, you can probably get the same in any Chinatown in different countries, but trust me, it's not quite the same.

A couple of friends recommended this little hole-in-the-wall near our place called 新桂香燒臘 (sorry, no English name). They specialize in siu mei (燒味).  The shop has two small tables inside that seats two each and a couple of tables outside on the street that seats three each. People mostly buy take-out; business is brisk.

So far, I've tried their barbecued pork (叉燒), soy chicken (豉油雞), marinated steamed chicken (白切雞), and roasted pork with crispy skin (燒肉) --all mouthwatering, super yummy goodness.  Next up, I want to try their roasted goose (燒鵝), roasted duck (燒鴨), and the suckling pig (乳豬).  I have a feeling I won't be disappointed, going by the number of orders for these items when I was there last.

What's comfort food for you?

Game Time!

These days when it seems that the kids are glued to screens, I love it when they turn to board games instead.  Good, old-fashioned fun.

J & Z were playing Man Bites Dog and were cracking themselves up over the silly headlines they created.  They even decided to make additional cards to add to the pack to make even crazier and zanier headlines.

What board games do you enjoy?

08 February 2017

After the last two weeks where I'd posted monochrome photos, I thought a bit of color is called for for this post.  Besides, I'd been bombarded with bright colors lately on account of Chinese New Year, so here's a bit of red to brighten your week.
