On Boxing Day, we went to a birthday party to celebrate the first birthday of our friend’s daughter. The highlight of the party for Josh was the entertainer that my friend hired.
I don’t know about you, but I stress over what to do with the children at birthday parties. One year, we held it at our clubhouse and because Josh was still quite young then, I just had a couple of games that I ‘borrowed’ from my sister-in-law when she had a birthday party for our nephew. The next year, we had Josh’s party at ‘The Village’ at his school; the teachers supervised all the activities and kept the children entertained. Last year, we invited a few close friends for lunch and afterwards went to Playtown and let the kids loose while we adults chatted and caught up. This year, we’ve decided to have the party at the clubhouse again… but I didn’t know what activities to do to keep the children entertained. I was originally thinking of some arts and crafts, but I still had to research on suitable and age-appropriate ones. Then we met Jan, the entertainer at this party and I knew we just had to get him for Josh’s party next month. Josh asked him to “…please be really, really funny on my birthday” and is very excited that his friends will meet ‘the clown,’ too.
Jan kept all the children (and us) entertained for over an hour with jokes, silly acts, plate-spinning, giant bubble-blowing, popping three (!) ping pong balls inside his mouth, tug-o-war, among other things.

Zoë participated in all the activities, but towards the end when Josh was dancing wildly to some 80’s music,
she decided that she’d rather play with the drum.

I am loving the dancing machine! and to 80s music?!? It just doesn't get any better than that. Glad you guys had fun :)
Oh how fun! This whole post as you described it all and the pictures made me smile big time. What fun and memories you are making together! I just love it! XX Lori
Oh, how fun! Kaishon's birthday is coming and we have to pick a party venue soon. As they get older it gets a little easier, but not much! Trust me! Pure craziness!
Thank you for your very sweet comment at I heart faces on the welcome page. You made my day with your kindness : )
We've thought about hiring a clown for E too. Well, not a clown so much as a magician. Clowns can be scary! ;)
How fun was that? They look so happy:-)
I stress about what to plan, too but they look like they had a blast!
Just comin' to the Ponderosa (farm) was entertainment enough for birthday parties. Kids never get board with the activities 'round here.
That little Josh is a real entertainer isn't he and his sis is just too sweet.
Have a great day!!!
Wow! What a fun birthday party! For Gia's first birthday we just had a little family party in the house...this year will have to be the same since I'm due so close to her birthday and can't really plan but I'd love to get some kind of entertainer for her future birthdays, it looked like Josh really enjoyed having one. That picture of Zoe playing the drum was just so cute.
Love reading your blog!!! The kiddo's are absolutely adorable!!!
I have passed on a Blog Award to you. You can see it and the 'rules' for paying it forward here: http://shellilynn.wordpress.com
Happy Monday!!
Oh how cute!! What a great little entertainer. Now how can I hire him for my daughter's fourth birthday party in April Lol!!
How cute!! That must have been some party!!
Very cute photos! Looks like they had fun.
He should pair up with the entertainer and add Zoe with the drums. They would be quite fun and entertaining.
Your little ones are adorable!! ...and what great pictures :)
Happy belated birthday to Josh...and congrats to smart mommy for finding such a great way for him to spend it (...the plate spinning looks like so much fun!!) :)
